CLEVELAND -- Before the new 30-story Hilton Convention Center Hotel can go up, the old Cuyahoga County administration building must come down.
The hotel will be owned by the county but operated by Hilton.
Demolition began Monday when B & B Wrecking and Excavating started to tear down the old building, a building built in the 1950s. It is slated to be complete by March 7.
In its place will be the $260 million hotel project, slated to be operating by 2016.
To help pay for the 600- to 650-room hotel, the county will use a $93 million surplus left over from the building of the new Cleveland Convention Center and Global Center for Health Innovation.
