What Ohio leaders are saying about Comey firing

President Donald Trump on Tuesday abruptly fired James Comey who was supposed to have at least six more years in his term as FBI director.

Comey was leading what appeared to be an open-ended investigation into Russian interference in the election — and what Trump associates knew about it.

Comey's dismissal drew rebuke and concern from several lawmakers.

Among Ohio lawmakers, Republican Gov. John Kasich said in a statement, "I am extremely troubled by the circumstances surrounding the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, who has served this nation honorably."

Sen. Sherrod Brown, a Democrat said, "Now more than ever, we need an independent investigation into Russian ties to ensure American people can have full confidence in findings."

As the search for Comey's replacement continues, the FBI is being headed by Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
