New 2016 RNC logo created by Cleveland-based firm

 

CLEVELAND—The new logo for next summer's Republican National Convention is rooted in rock ‘n' roll.

"The artwork combines the elephant, which has come to symbolize the Republican Party and a guitar, which symbolizes the spirit of Cleveland's most famous museum, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," Steve King, chairman of the Republican National Committee's Committee on Arrangements, said in a written statement revealing the logo Monday morning.

"Cleveland is a fantastic city and is the perfect place to serve as host for our 41st nominating convention and as the launching pad for the Republican nominee. As this powerful logo is seen the world over, it will come to be identified with the convention and the city."

The logo was designed by Cleveland-based marketing firm Falls Communication.  

Firm president Rob Falls said officials from the RNC contacted the firm in late September.

Group representatives asked for 16 to 20 samplings of potential logos.

Falls' firm provided 178 options.

Eventually, the Republicans narrowed it down to 16, and chose the winner from that group.

 "It'll look great on a banner and it'll look great on a pin," Falls said. "It's a really good look."

The banners, pins, and all of the RNC pomp-and-circumstance will roll out when the convention is held in Cleveland from July 18-21, 2016.
