Carroll, 62, had already entered into a plea agreement with federal officials and is facing up to 14 years in prison in exchange for his plea and cooperating with authorities.

Carroll was in charge of the multi-million-dollar construction/reconstruction at the hospital and at Deaconess Hospital.

MetroHealth fired Carroll July 14, 2008, after learning from the IRS that Carroll was involved in the scheme with East-West Construction Co.'s Nilesh Patel.

Carroll, formerly of Bainbridge Township in Geauga County, had been vice president for 14 years and was earning $195,000 annually.

Patel is expected to plead guilty later today (Wednesday). Carroll and Patel allegedly cost MetroHealth about $600,000. MetroHealth is a Cuyahoga County-run hospital.

In the plea agreement, Carroll also admitted accepted bribes from two other unnamed construction companies.
