AKRON -- Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh confirmed that Eric Campbell, 19, of Frederick Avenue in Akron, has pleaded guilty to robbery and felonious assault -- second degree felonies -- for an April 27 incident that netted him $2 worth of quarters and left the victim with a broken jaw.
On April 27, the victim was walking home from work when Campbell and a group of three other men began to follow him and harass him at the intersection of Howard and York streets.
The victim tried to ignore Campbell and kept walking when he was struck in the head from behind, causing him to fall to the ground.
Campbell then went through the victim's pant pockets robbing him of $2 dollars in quarters.
The Akron Police Department canvassed the area and was able to locate the group of men a short time later.
The victim positively identified Eric Campbell as the person who attacked and robbed him.
The victim was treated for a broken jaw at St. Thomas Hospital and required follow-up reconstructive surgery at Akron City Hospital as a result of the attack.
At the time of the incident, Campbell was already on probation for a robbery he committed in 2008.
Campbell will be sentenced Aug. 20 by Judge Brenda Unruh and faces up to eight years in prison on each count.
