AKRON -- Three burglary suspects were arrested after trying to break into a home in Firestone Park around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Officers responded to a call for a burglary in progress in the 1500 block of Evergreen Avenue around 10 a.m. Wednesday after the homeowner reported she heard someone pounding on her front and side doors.
She looked out of a second-story window and saw three men in her driveway. She heard them asking each other, "Is anyone in there?"
The homeowner then called police as the suspects were walking away. Shortly after the police department received the Evergreen Avenue call, several other calls were received from an off-duty officer, a U.S. Postal Carrier and another citizen concerning these 3 men.
Responding officers located three men matching the suspects' descriptions near the intersection of Cypress Avenue and South Firestone Boulevard. The men were identified and taken into custody.
Officers arrested Michale Green, 18, of Greenwood Avenue; De'Andre Hooks, 16, of Cole Avenue; and Quashane R. Varner, 16, of Roslyn Avenue and charged all three with attempted burglary.
Varner was also charged with misrepresenting identity for lying to police about his identity.
De'Andre Hooks confessed and was charged with five counts of burglary regarding the five burglaries that occurred in Firestone Park over the weekend.
Those burglaries took place on Glenmount Avenue, East Archwood Avenue, South Firestone Boulevard and two on Thornapple Avenue.
Detectives are still following up on identifying the second suspect that was involved in the weekend break-ins.
