AKRON -- Nationwide Insurance has given a grant of $45,000 to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to help people in need.

The grant is part of a larger donation of $1.25 million that Nationwide is making to the national office of Feeding America. The money is being distributed at 21 food banks nationwide in communities where Nationwide employees live and work.

"Nationwide is honored to support the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank," said Chad Jester, president of Nationwide Insurance Foundation. "We're also proud of the Nationwide employees
who selflessly give of their time and energy in support of hunger-relief initiatives. At Nationwide, we believe we can do more together than we can alone."

In addition to the grant, Nationwide Insurance employees donate to food drives and volunteer at food banks across the country each year, including the Akron-Canton Foodbank.

The donation comes at a busy time for food banks. It's estimated that in the Akron-Canton area, 15.7 percent of people are defined as food insecure.
