Streetsboro: Sunday night SWAT standoff ends

STREETSBORO -- At 9:29 p.m. Sunday, the Streetsboro Police Department responded to William Henry Avenue for a report of a 49-year0ld man threatening to commit suicide.

When officers arrived, a man could be seen through a bedroom window holding a handgun to his chest. A perimeter was set up around the home and the Metro SWAT team was called out.\

The SWAT team was able to communicate with the man but he refused to come out of the home.

At 1:40 a.m., SWAT personnel heard a gunshot from inside the home and, moments later, the man walked out the front door with one gunshot wound to his chest.

He was immediately attended to by SWAT medics and the Streetsboro Fire EMT's. He was then taken to Akron City Hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

The man's name is not being released pending all notifications and no criminal charges have been filed.
