ROCKY RIVER -- An ice jam has just broken free in Rocky River forcing people to move back from the river near the Emerald Necklace Marina.
Police are telling people who live in the basin of the Rocky River that they need to be prepared to evacuate quickly due to concerns over ice jams and the threat of flooding. Any evacuations are voluntary at this point according to police.
According to the Lakewood Fire Department the main concern is the Western shore of the river. There is a potential that water could block emergency personnel from homes on that side.
Police say the river has already come up and is overflowing the parking lot at the Emerald Necklace Marina.
Ice chunks are jammed up under the Detroit Road Bridge.
Channel 3's Maureen Kyle reports a few people living in the impacted area have already cleared out as a precaution.
