SANDY TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- A 71-year-old woman was killed early Tuesday morning after a car hit her and fled the scene along State Route 43, highway patrol says.

Mary A. Russel, 71, of Waynesburg, was struck by a southbound vehicle on Waynesburg Drive SE while she was walking south near Priscilla Street SE just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle then fled the scene, the Highway Patrol said.

A second vehicle then struck Russel lying in the roadway.

Russel was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second driver, Richard Lisko, 44, of Lowellville, was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.

The make and model of the hit-and-run vehicle is not known.

The crash remains under investigation.
