Barberton: Stabbing suspect held on $750k bond

BARBERTON -- Akron and Barberton police joined forces to track down a man suspected of stabbing a Barberton man during an argument.

Wilfredo Vera Baez, 34, of Akron, appeared before Barberton Municipal Court Judge Christine Croce Tuesday morning.

He was charged with attempted aggravated murder, had bond set at $750,000, remains in Summit County Jail, and his next appearance with appointed counsel is at 1 p.m. Friday.

Just before 10 p.m. Monday, police responded to 188 8th St NW for a stabbing. They found Timothy D. Newberry, 27, with multiple stab wounds.

He was taken to Akron General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police learned that Baez had stabbed Newberry during an argument. At 4 a.m., Barberton and Akron police tracked down Baez on Henry Street and took him into custody.
