AKRON -- An Akron woman, who proseuctors say posed as a vet and conducted numerous medical procedures on cats and dogs for a four-year period, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
The sentence against 36-year-old Brandi Tomko was handed down after a judge found her guilty on charges last month.
Prosecutors say Tomko ran the C&D Animal Hospital in Akron.
The charges she was found guilty of include identity fraud (fourth-degree felony), forgery (fifth-degree felony), three counts of prohibitions concerning companion animals (fifth-degree misdemeanors), practicing veterinary medicine without a license (second-degree misdemeanor) and two counts of theft (fifth-degree misdemeanors).
Tomko had also pled guilty to aggravated possession of drugs and possession of drug abuse instruments.
