CLEVELAND HEIGHTS -- Suburban Cleveland resident Lester Stumpe isn't letting cancer stop him from living life as an adventure.
When aggressive prostate cancer appeared to end his dream of restoring an old canoe, his wife and others enlisted the help of a nationally known canoe restorer to help.
Stumpe joined in the repair work and they launched the canoe on its maiden voyage on a pond in August even as chemotherapy took its toll on Stumpe.
He's since taken the canoe out on the Cuyahoga River and continues to fight his cancer.
It's an unsurprising approach for Stumpe and his family, who have backpacked a month each year with their children, visited 48 national parks and traveled to many countries.
