The state of Ohio announced Friday that the 19.5-acre Lake Erie Coastal and Riparian Forest Preserve has been created in Bratenahl, a small community next to Cleveland.
More than 40 species of birds have been spotted at the location, including eight rare, threatened or endangered species.
The $2.7 million land acquisition resulted from work by the village of Bratenahl, the state of Ohio and the Western Reserve Land Conservancy. A $1.2 million federal grant helped swing the deal.
The preserve connects with a lakefront bicycle path.
