CANTON -- A nursing student and a highway patrol trooper saved a man's life at a Canton Burger King Wednesday night.

Highway Patrol Trooper M.B. Claxon was helping with traffic control at the intersection of Raff Road and Southway Street at about 8:43 Wednesday night, when a man ran into the intersection yelling that someone needed help at the Burger King.

When Claxon got to the Burger King, he found a car stopped in the drive-through. The driver, Michael Miller, 21, of Apple Creek, was found unresponsive with blue lips and foam coming from his mouth.

DeAnna Patterson, a nursing student who was a customer at the Burger King, was at the driver's door, trying to get a response from Miller. She could not detect a heartbeat and found he was not breathing.

Patterson pulled the driver from the car as Claxon got his first aid bag.

Patterson then began chest compressions and Claxon started rescue breathing.

After a few minutes, Miller began the breathe on his own.

He was taken to Aultman Hospital by Canton Township EMS.

Miller's passenger, Robert Miller, 19, of Beach City, told officials that Michael may have overdosed on opiates.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office also assisted at the scene.
