SANDY TOWNSHIP -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday at approximately 2 p.m.
The crash occurred on Mottice Drive, west of Elmfort Avenue, in Sandy Township in Stark County.
The Highway Patrol said the crash occurred when a 1994 Dodge Caravan driven by Gary L. Bovie, 57, of New Philadelphia, was traveling eastbound on Mottice Drive.
The vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve, went off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole, and overturned.
Bovie was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Stark County Medical Examiner Harry Campbell.
The driver's side door of the vehicle also showed signs that it may have not been able to be properly shut and latched when closed.
This may have been a factor in the driver being ejected. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
