Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - Ryan Braun homered and drove in three on
Wednesday, as the Brewers crushed the Astros, 13-4, to complete a three-game
sweep. Braun knocked in a pair during a six-run fifth inning, then belted his
29th homer of the season in the sixth. Rickie Weeks and Cesar Izturis both
homered during the fifth, while Jonathan Lucroy later added a two-run blast
for the Brewers, who had lost nine of 10 games entering this series. Mike
Fiers (5-4) earned the win, allowing two runs on eight hits over six-plus
innings. He did not issue a walk and struck out six en route to his eighth
straight quality start. Brett Wallace recorded the first multi-homer game of
his career, belting a solo shot and a two-run bomb for the Astros, who had
more errors (four) over the first four innings on Wednesday than they had wins
in the month of July (three). Jordan Lyles (2-8) lasted five innings and
allowed nine runs -- seven earned -- on nine hits in the loss.

Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Michael McKenry capped a five-run eighth with a
three-run homer as the Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Chicago Cubs, 8-4, in the
rubber match of a three-game set. Andrew McCutchen had two hits and three runs
scored, while Starling Marte added a solo shot for the Pirates, who have won
six of their last eight games. Jeff Karstens (4-2) surrendered a run on three
hits and a walk in five innings. Making their Pirate debuts after being
acquired on Tuesday, Gaby Sanchez went 0-for-2 before being lifted for a
pinch-hitter, while Travis Snider tallied two hits and a run scored. The
Pirates acquired the first baseman Sanchez and pitcher Kyle Kaminska from the
Miami Marlins in exchange for outfielder Gorkys Hernandez and the club's 2013
competitive balance draft pick. Snider was brought in from the Toronto Blue
Jays for pitcher Brad Lincoln. Travis Wood (4-7) fanned six, but was charged
with two runs on three hits and three walks for the Cubs, who have dropped two
straight on the heels of a three-game winning streak.

combined to two-hit the Los Angeles Dodgers as the Diamondbacks completed
their first three-game sweep at Chavez Ravine in five seasons with a 4-0
shutout. Recalled from Triple-A Reno to start Wednesday's contest,
Corbin (3-4) scattered a pair of singles over six innings opposite fellow
rookie Stephen Fife (0-1) in the Diamondbacks' sixth consecutive win over the
Dodgers. Arizona, winners of 10 of 13 overall, closed the gap on the Dodgers
in the NL West standings to 1 1/2 games. Los Angeles entered the series
finale one game behind first-place San Francisco. Miguel Montero homered,
singled and drove in three runs for the Diamondbacks. Paul Goldschmidt
collected three hits and Chris Johnson added a solo home run. Matt Kemp and
Fife supplied the hits for Los Angeles, which was swept at home by Arizona for
the first time since August 3-5, 2007.
