St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased
the contract of pitcher Shelby Miller from Triple-A Memphis. The right-hander
was the 19th overall pick in the 2009 Draft and his first game appearance will
mark his Major League debut.
The 21-year-old tallied the second most strikeouts (160) in the Pacific Coast
League and was named the Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month for Aug.,
posting a 5-1 record and 2.89 ERA over six starts.
The Cardinals also recalled outfielder Adron Chambers and infielder Ryan
Jackson from Triple-A.
Chambers batted .319 with 44 runs batted in and 13 stolen bases in 96 games at
Memphis, while Jackson appeared in 117 games and hit 10 homers and drove in 47
runs for the Redbirds.
