Flushing Meadows, NY -- American greats Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan captured their fourth U.S. Open men's doubles title on Friday.
The Olympic gold medalists defeated a fifth-seeded tandem of Indian Leander Paes and Czech Radek Stepanek 6-3, 6-4 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The remarkable Bryans never faced a break point on Day 12 of this Big Apple fortnight.
The second-seeded twin brothers avenged a loss at the hands of Paes and Stepanek in this year's Australian Open finale.
The 34-year-old Bryans also captured U.S. Open titles in 2005, 2008 and 2010 and were the runners-up in 2003. They now own a record-tying 12 Grand Slam doubles titles, equaling the mark set by Aussie greats John Newcombe and Tony Roche.
The Bryans went 1-2 in Grand Slam finals this year, with the other loss coming at the French Open. They've captured at least one major title in each of the last eight years.
The 39-year-old Paes owns seven major doubles titles, including U.S. Open ones in 2006 and 2009, while the 33-year-old Stepanek failed in an attempt to capture his second.
The Bryans will split $420,000.
