Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies have activated catcher Carlos Ruiz from the 15-day disabled list, while Placido Polanco's troublesome back landed the third baseman back on the DL.

Ruiz missed a month of action because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The 33-year-old backstop is enjoying a career year, entering Friday's action batting .335 with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.

Polanco is dealing with lower back inflammation, the same ailment that forced him to the DL in late July. He had played sparingly since returning on August 20.

In 90 games this season, Polanco has hit .257 with 19 RBI.
