New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints activated defensive
end Will Smith on Saturday as part of several roster moves.
Smith had his 2-game suspension, which was administered due to his role in the
Saints' "bounty" scandal, overturned by a three-member arbitration panel
on Friday. However, he can still be suspended if NFL commissioner Roger
Goodell can prove that there was an intent to injure.
He was allowed to take part in all preseason activities, but started serving
the suspension on Sept. 3.
Last season, the Ohio State product recorded 35 tackles and 6 1/2 sacks in 14
games.
Also on Saturday, the team got roster exemptions for linebackers Barrett Ruud
and Jonathan Vilma, who was originally banned for the entire 2012 season.
Rookie offensive tackle Marcel Jones was placed on injured reserve, while wide
receiver Adrian Arrington and fullback Korey Hall were released.
New Orleans begins its 2012 season on Sunday at home against Washington.
