Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira
could be sidelined for another week after aggravating a calf injury during
Saturday's game against Baltimore.
Teixeira returned to the lineup Saturday after a 10-game absence because of a
strained calf, then hurt himself again trying to beat out a double-play
grounder in the ninth inning of the 5-4 loss. He made a head-first slide on
the play and was called out, ending the game, although replays clearly showed
he was safe. A run would have scored to tie the game.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi updated Teixeira's status on Sunday and said an
MRI exam would be scheduled. The switch-hitter will likely miss New York's
upcoming series in Boston.
Teixeira is hitting .255 in 120 games with 23 homers and 81 runs batted in
this season.
