EUCLID -- The first motorcycle warning signs in the state of Ohio went up here on Monday.

Four yellow signs, reading "Watch for Motorcycles," were placed at the intersection of East 185th Street and Lakeshore Boulevard.

Allstate Insurance chose the intersection and donated the signs to the city. 

It's part of a nationwide campaign to increase awareness.  Euclid Police say this intersection is not any more dangerous than any other in the city, but even small safety measures can help. 

Motorcycle riders say the signs may turn heads, but it's up to the driver -- of the motorcycle and of the car -- to be responsible and pay attention on the road.

John "Kiks" Kikol organizes tribute rides for police, firefighters and troops in Northeast Ohio. He's seen many of his friends get hurt when a car driver isn't paying attention.

"We can't eat on a motorcycle. We can't talk on a phone. There's so many distractions that car drivers have," Kikol said. Kikol says it would be beneficial if drivers looked twice before making a left turn, and gave motorcycles more space on the road.

"It's the responsibility of the driver of the car and the driver of the motorcycle.

We have to take responsibility for what we do 100 percent of the time when we're riding," Kikol said.

He encourages drivers to take the advanced courses that many motorcyclists go through to increase their own safety.
