Cleveland teachers watch Chicago situation closely

The Chicago teachers' strike is in its second day and it's being watched closely by teachers right here.

The Cleveland schools are facing similar issues right now, from overcrowding to tense contract negotiations.

Teachers in Chicago and Cleveland complain about class sizes. WKYC obtained exclusive video showing Garrett Morgan High School last year, with more than 50 students per teacher.

This year we are hearing once again that some classes are so big at some Cleveland schools that they have to be held in a gymnasium.

This summer, Democrats, Republicans and the teachers union came up with a plan to reform the Cleveland Schools.

CEP Eric Gordon has pledged that for grades 4 to 12, class sizes will not be over 40 to1. He says the district will be moving teachers and changing schedules to get down to that size.

Cleveland teachers will wear red in support of Chicago teachers on Wednesday.
