Boston, MA (Sports Network) - New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was
substituted for in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Boston
Red Sox after apparently injuring his ankle trying to beat out a double-play
ball.
Jeter came up with runners on the corners and one away in the eighth and hit a
slow roller to second. After getting the force out, Mike Aviles tossed to
first and beat a lunging Jeter by a step.
Jeter limped into the outfield and was pulled for Jason Nix when Boston came
to the plate.
With two hits earlier in the game, Jeter upped his MLB-leading total to 194.
He is batting .324 with 15 home runs, 52 RBI and 93 runs scored this season.
