BEAUMONT, Texas -- Dozens of people have been injured in an estimated 100-vehicle pileup that forced the closure of Interstate 10 in Southeast Texas.
KFDM-TV reports that the collision happened around 8 a.m. Thursday on I-10 near Beaumont, about 80 miles east of Houston.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says at least 100 cars and trucks crashed in extremely dense fog.
Officials at Acadian Ambulance service tell KFDM that at least 48 people have been taken to area hospitals.
Two people in an SUV were killed but their names have not been released as of 9 .m. Thursday.
I-10 West reopened about noon local time but state troopers expect I-10 East to remain closed for at least 8 to 10 more hours. I-10 East was still closed at 9 .m. EST.
