Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Tyler Stone scored a game-high 28 points to
go along with nine rebounds, as the SE Missouri State Redhawks edged the UMKC
Kangaroos, 66-65, in non-league play at Swinney Recreation Center
Corey Wilford chipped in with 15 points, six assists and six rebounds to help
the Redhawks (8-6) to their second straight victory.
Reserves Nate Rogers and Thomas Staton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively,
for the Kangaroos (4-8), who have now dropped four straight. Fred Chatmon
recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
The Kangaroos could not buy a bucket in the first half, as they shot just 30
percent from the floor and trailed, 32-24 at intermission.
SE Missouri State took its largest lead of the game, 37-26, at the 16:46 mark
of the second stanza. However, UMKC answered with a 13-4 run and kept it close
the rest of the way. UMKC's Kirk Korver buried a three from the corner with 42
seconds remaining to put the Kangaroos ahead, 65-64. Stone was fouled at the
other end and sank the deciding free throws with 28 seconds on the clock.
Redhawks forward Nino Johnson blocked Estan Tyler's potential game-winning 3-
point attempt in the final seconds to preserve the victory.
The Kangaroos made 10-of-27 3-pointers (.370) for the game, but they shot just
12-of-36 (.333) inside the arc.
