Oxford, OH (Sports Network) - Will Sullivan shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the
floor en route to a game-high 16 points, and the Miami-Ohio Redhawks claimed
an 82-70 win over the Illinois-Chicago Flames at Millett Hall.
Will Felder and Jon Harris added 14 points apiece, and Reggie Johnson scored
12 to help the RedHawks (4-6) snap a four-game slide.
Gary Talton scored a team-high 15 points and Daniel Barnes finished with 14
for the Flames (9-3), who had an eight-game winning streak come to an end
Tuesday night at Western Illinois. Joey Miller chipped in with 11 points,
while Hayden Humes and Josh Crittle each scored 10 in a losing effort.
A 3-pointer by Johnson kick-started an early 9-0 run for the RedHawks, which
turned a two-point advantage into a 20-9 lead with just under 12 minutes
to play in the opening frame. Miami led by as many as 14 at the 4:59 mark of
the first half, and the RedHawks took a 39-28 lead into the half despite
allowing UIC to shoot 54.2 percent from the floor in the opening stanza.
The Flames hung around thanks to a 6-of-13 effort from beyond the arc after
halftime. However, the RedHawks were nearly automatic over the final 20
minutes, shooting 14-of-21 from the floor (.667).
Miami forced 19 turnovers for the game and was particularly effective from
long range, sinking 10-of-19 threes (.526) as UIC was unable to match the
blistering scoring pace.
