Fairfield, CT (Sports Network) - Both Dylon Cormier and Erik Etherly scored
the 1,000th points of their career as they helped guide the Greyhounds of
Loyola-Maryland to a 65-60 win over the Fairfield Stags in Metro Atlantic
Athletic Conference action at Webster Bank Arena.
Cormier led the way for the Greyhounds (14-6, 6-2 MAAC) with 21 points, while
Etherly dropped in 16 points and cleared nine rebounds as the team won for the
fifth time in the last six outings. Jordan Latham chipped in with 10 points.
The Stags (10-10, 2-6) were paced by Derek Needham who registered a game-high
23 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor, followed by Amadou Sidibe who
recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Fairfield scored the first five points of the game, but after seven ties in
the first half it was Loyola that ended up with a slim 33-32 edge at the
break. Both teams shot at least 50 percent from the floor through the first 20
minutes of action.
In the second half the Stags dropped from 52.6 percent accuracy in the first
period to only 34.6 percent following intermission, allowing the Greyhounds to
capture the five-point win.
In addition to turning the ball over 14 times, Fairfield shot only 66.7
percent at the free-throw line, compared to 77.4 percent for the visitors.
