Wilmington, NC (Sports Network) - Devon Saddler led the way with 24 points as
the Delaware Blue Hens nipped the UNC-Wilmington Seahawks, 79-78, in a
Colonial Athletic Association bout at Trask Coliseum.
Jarvis Threatt added a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds for the
Blue Hens (15-13, 10-5 CAA), while Kyle Anderson chipped in with 12 points.
Delaware has won five of their last six.
Four players scored in double figures for the Seahawks (10-17, 5-10), led by
Keith Rendleman with a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Dixon
also had double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Freddie Jackson
and Cedrick Williams each tallied 11 points.
Delaware took a 44-36 lead at intermission by knocking down 62.1 percent of
its field goal tries, including 6-of-10 from beyond the 3-point line. UNCW
connected on 45.7 percent of its field goal attempts before halftime.
In the second half, it was the Seahawks' turn to get hot, shooting 61.5
percent from the field and 5-of-8 from 3-point range. Although they shot 46.2
percent in the half, the Blue Hens missed all by one of their seven 3-point
tries after intermission. After a Jackson layup tied the score at 78-78 with
1:23 to play, Delaware's Josh Brinkley made 1-of-2 free throws with 1:07
to go in regulation to put the Blue Hens back on top. The Seahawks had a
chance to win it at the buzzer, but a Dixon jumper was off the mark, giving
the Blue Hens the victory.
Delaware had a slight edge in rebounding, 32-29. UNCW outscored Delaware in
points off of turnovers, 12-4.
