AKRON -- A holiday character favorite will make its return to the 9th annual Holidayfest at Lock 3 in Akron.
Archie the Snowman, popular since the late 60s, will be reintroduced on November 23 during the Holiday Lighting Ceremony.
In bringing back Archie, the city has tapped the man who designed and re-built the giant snowman for Chapel Hill founder Dick Buckholzer. Akron resident Ra'ul Umaña has agreed to lend his skills to redesigning and rebuilding Archie for Lock 3.
When Chapel Hill Mall was sold to new owners in 2004, Archie was retired.
The new Archie will not be quite as tall as the 20-foot original. It will be displayed at the Lock 3 level of the former O'Neil's Department store building.
