CLEVELAND -- An upcoming attraction at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will feature dozens of spinning animals.
The zoo will introduce a new wildlife carousel in spring 2014 with 64-hand-carved wooden animals. Each of the animals will be grouped together on the ride by habitat as follows: African, grassland, tropical forest and tundra.
The carousel will be placed in the Savanna Ridge area where there is currently a playground and a small tent.
Construction and installation of the carousel, which will measure 54 feet in diameter, is expected to cost $785,000, but site preparation and additional amenities hike the entire project's cost to $2 million.
The Cleveland Zoological Society will lead the fundraising charge for the carousel project and has committed to raising $2 million in private funds.
