CAYCE, S.C. -- It’s the stuff nightmares are made of.
Nestled in a small South Carolina town is a fixer-upper house with a strange selling point.
A Zillow listing boasted the 2,656 square foot home features four bedrooms and three bathrooms at the price of $155,672.
Oh, yeah… Then there’s this.
“Upstairs apartment cannot be shown under any circumstances. Buyer assumes responsibility for the month-to-month tenancy in the upstairs apartment. Occupant has never paid, and no security deposit is being held, but there is a lease in place. (Yes, it does not make sense, please don't bother asking.)”
The eerie details have captured lots of attention on social media, with many labeling it a “Nightmare House.”
But is it legit?
We reached out to Zillow asking for more information, and they pointed us to a news article by The Post and Courier, which is based in Charleston. While it offers no answers to the mystery tenant upstairs, the article reveals that the owners have agreed to reword their post.
By Thursday morning, the Zillow listing was shortened with no mention of the upstairs situation.
The house is also no longer for sale, but the mystery has been solved. A local TV station interviewed the upstairs tenant who said he had no idea the house had gained so much attention.
