CANTON -- This weekend, fans will be flocking to see the new movie, "The Hunger Games" this weekend.

One of the centerpieces of the film, the Mockingjay pin, was made right here in Northeast Ohio.

Dana Schneider, is a jewelry designer who specializes in movie jewelry.  She moved back to Canton from Los Angeles three years ago, but continues to work on pieces for movies.

When she was approached about making a pin for a new movie, she didn't know at first it was for The Hunger Games.  When she found out, she knew she would be making the Mockingjay pin, and how important it was to the film.

The Mockingjay pin plays an important role in the books and the movie.  It is the symbol of rebellion and it is worn by the main character Katniss Everdeen.

Schneider said at first she was nervous about making such an important piece, but in the end is proud of her work, and honored to be apart of the film.

The pin is made of sterling silver, and plated in 22-carat gold.  She put a special finish on it to make it look like an antique.

She said the final pin took about three months to make.  She spent a lot of time on the backing of the pin, because it had to fit through a lot of fabric on Jennifer Lawrence's costume.

Schneider said her main job was to make sure the pin looked exactly like the pin on the cover of the book.
