EASTLAKE -- A man identified and suspected in multiple bank robberies -- the latest on Saturday at the Dollar Bank in Eastlake -- surrendered to police in an empty city lot Tuesday afternoon.
Police now have him in custody.
He is also a suspect in bank robberies in other Lake County cities, including Wickliffe, Willowick and Willoughby.
At noon May 22, Eastlake Police Chief Larry Reik tells Channel 3 that he was contacted by attorney Dominic Vitantonio, who identified himself as the suspect's attorney.
Vitantonio was calling to negotiate a surrender to the Eastlake Police Department.
Reik arranged to have the attorney bring the suspect to the empty city lot at the corner of state Route 91 and Vine Street.
Both Vitanonio and his client complied with all orders of the arresting officers, Reik said, and the suspect was taken into custody.
He was processed at the police station and all the other departments which had the same man as a suspect in other bank robberies were notified.
Once in custody, however, the suspect declined to make any comment.
