COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An Ohio school resource officer accused of trying to have sex with a high school student is now facing federal charges.
The FBI said that Columbus police officer Todd L. Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday. The indictment charges him with two counts of trying to coerce a minor to make a sexually explicit video to send to him.
A third count charges him trying to entice another minor to have sex with him.
The 49-year-old Smith had been assigned to Centennial High School as a resource officer. Both girls were students there.
Smith was being held without bail.
A bond hearing in federal court was expected on Monday.
