As former President Bill Clinton delivered his speech Wednesday night at the Democratic convention, his wife was notably absent from the audience.
In fact, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said because of her schedule, she couldn't even watch the speech live on TV.
That's because she was touring East Timor, as the first US Secretary of State to visit the developing Southeast Asian nation.

Now that it's over, she says she's going to check to see how much her husband ad libbed.
"Officially, let me say that for decades secretaries of state have not attended political conventions because of the non-partisan nature of our foreign policy," she said. "I think it's a good rule. ... But, on a personal level, let me also say that my husband read parts of his speech to me over the last few days. I received the as-prepared version, which I am anxious, when I can, to compare with the as-delivered version (laughter)."
Hillary Clinton did get to watch the speech later on the US ambassador's home computer and then called her husband on her way to the airport.
Her next stop is Brunei and then Russia.
