ASHTABULA -- The man accused of killing an Ashtabula mother and daughter was charged with two counts of murder at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in Ashtabula Municipal Court.
Records show that Gilberto Torres, 33, did not enter a plea and the judge had him held on $500,000 bond, $250,000 on each count.
Torres is accused of killing his wife, Amparo "Patty" Torres, 40, and her daughter, Hilda Garcia, 20, whose bodies were found at a home on Kain Avenue off state Route 20 on Monday.
Police said Garcia's boyfriend called the family after he hadn't heard from his girlfriend in a few days. When the family went to the house, they found Torres' husband asleep on the couch with a gun.
Both women were found naked. Amparo Torres appeared to have died from a gunshot wound and Hilda Garcia appears to have been beaten to death.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an auotpsy Tuesday.
A vigil for the two women was held Monday night.
