CLEVELAND -- A 23-year-old Cleveland man is in custody for weekend homicide.
The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit arrested a 23-year-old man Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m. for the weekend homicide which occurred at East 93rd Street and Empire Avenue Sunday.
On Sunday, Police Dispatch received a call for shots fired in the area of E. 93rd Street and Empire Avenue shortly after 1 p.m.
When officers arrived, they could not find anything but a little while later, received a call for a car that hit a pole nearby at 12307 Chesterfield Avenue.
When Fifth District Officers arrived at this scene, they found a Pontiac Montana minivan with two people inside and a Chevrolet Corsica with one person involved in an accident.
EMS told police the passenger of the Montana minivan had a gunshot wound to the neck and died at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed the homicide victim was in the area of E. 93rd Street and Empire Avenue when he was shot by an unknown suspect.
After being shot, the 17-year-old boy was assisted by someone in a Pontiac Montana minivan. The minivan driver, while driving the victim to the hospital, struck a Chevrolet Corsica at 12307 Chesterfield Avenue.
The man who shot the 17-year-old Sunday was arrested in the 9600 block of Kempton Avenue and is at the Division's Central Prison Unit awaiting charges.
