NORTH CANTON -- About 6:45 p.m. Saturday, police were called about an attempted robbery and an assault at the Kmart on N. Main St. in North Canton.
The victim was a Kmart employee collecting the shopping carts. The suspect demanded money and was armed with a box cutter.
While the victim was attempting to get his wallet, the suspect began slashing at the victim. The victim had some minor cuts to his arms and chest area.
The North Canton EMS responded and the victim was treated and released.
Officers responded to the area and attempted to locate the suspect. Deputy Darrell Seever and his K-9, Charlie, from the Summit County Sheriff's Department tracked the suspect to the rear of the businesses in the 1600 block of N. Main Street.
The suspect was not located.
Police say the suspect is black, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5'11", with an average build and short hair. He wore blue jeans, black boots and a black jacket with fleece type of material.
