CLEVELAND -- More than 80 Ohio Department of Transportation plows are on the streets in Northeast Ohio.

Drivers in the area, which includes Cuyahoga, Lake, and Geauga counties, have been working 12-hour shifts since Saturday. Single-digit temperatures have been a special challenge.

Ordinary salt is not effective and so, in some cases, has to be combined with liquid calcium chloride.

Mid-morning Tuesday, drivers on I-480 westbound -- east of the big Valley View bridge and Transportation Boulevard -- reported major delays when the surface of a smaller bridge re-froze. Traffic was slowed to a 5-mile-an-hour crawl for miles.
