CUYAHOGA COUNTY -- Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald wants to install a new, more efficient dispatch system countywide to handle 9-1-1 calls.
On Monday, he will release more specifics. But here are the basics. He calls it a change that will save money and, potentially, save lives.
Right now, 9-1-1 calls placed in the county go to 48 dispatch centers.
FitzGerald wants to reduce the number to four through consolidation, including a new emergency operations center, likely in Broadview Heights.
The 10-year project is projected to save millions of dollars.
The change comes just a Cleveland is launching a potentially countywide radio system that will enable all first responders to talk with each other.
