Estoril, Portugal (Sports Network) - Kaia Kanepi of Estonia overcame a dropped
set to beat unseeded Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in Saturday's final at the
$220,000 Estoril Open tennis event.
The sixth-seeded Kanepi, coming off a semifinal victory over top seed Roberta
Vinci, lost the first set in nine games and survived a tiebreak (8-6) before
taking the third set 6-4 to secure her second title of the year and third of
her career. She titled in Brisbane back in January and captured her maiden
championship in Palermo in 2010.
Suarez Navarro competed in her third career final and first since Marbella in
2010. She is still seeking a first title.
Kanepi, who took home $37,000 with Saturday's triumph, improved to 2-1
lifetime against Suarez Navarro.
