With summer-like weather forecast for the Memorial Day holiday weekend many people will be hitting area beaches to enjoy the sun and escape the heat.

Health officials will begin testing bacteria levels this weekend.

The warm spring weather follows a mild winter during which Lake Erie didn't freeze. Experts say if you head to the lake this weekend you may notice a difference.

This Memorial weekend the water in Lake Erie will be warmer and cleaner than it's been in years.

Experts at Stone Labs from Ohio State say bacteria levels will be down at all of our beaches and you won't notice nearly as much debris.

We've had few big storms so far this year and that means less runoff to pollute the lake waters.

But there could eventually be a drawback to all the warm weather this winter and spring. Experts say we could possibly see potentially toxic algae blooms in the lake later in the season.
