CLEVELAND -- The West Market kicked off the beginning of its 100th birthday with a new park.

The Market Square park went under a $1.5 million renovation that includes new benches, tables, and a stage.

"This is meant for people to buy their food there and come here and enjoy it," said Council Joe Cimperman.

Cleveland's best known market has made it through a century of history with one huge secret.

"The market stayed pretty much the same. That's the constant and that gives that 100 years a perspective," said Larry Schave.

Schave owns Kaufmann Poultry and has been at the Westside Market for 35 years.

Fresh food is the attraction at the market but the stories is what makes it thrive.

"I can walk around with an entire pig on my shoulder and not have one person blink twice," said Christopher Alvarado.
