CLEVELAND -- A Philadelphia radio host says sources tell him the Browns are among three teams that may be for sale, but the team is refuting those claims.
Philadelphia radio host Howard Eskin tweeted the rumor and it spread like digital wildfire.
Eskin said he heard through an NFL source that former Eagles President Joe Banner may be interested in buying an NFL team and that there were three potential teams he was targeting.
Eskin called in to local radio show Bull and the Fox on 92.3 The Fan and explained himself.
"My understanding is that the Bills are his first priority, but I was also told by an NFL source that Cleveland and St. Louis may be for sale," Eskin said.
The Browns say this is just a rumor.
Eskin retorts that he expects teams to deny such claims as rumor.
Al Lerner paid $530 million to buy the Browns in 1998. The team is now worth $977 million, according to Forbes.
Lerner's son Randy, 50, inherited the Browns from his father after he died in 2002.
