New York, NY (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielders
Torii Hunter and Mike Trout shared the honors as the top players in the
American League for the period ending June 10.
They are the first pair of teammates to win the A.L. weekly award since Josh
Hamilton and Colby Lewis of the Texas Rangers won on June 14, 2010.
Hunter hit .500 with four homers, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored to pick up his
third career weekly honor. The 36-year-old lead the Junior Circuit in total
bases (23) and was tied for the best on-base percentage (.560).
Trout won his first career weekly award after hitting .520 with two
doubles, four RBI, 10 runs scored and four stolen bases. The rookie recorded
his first career four-hit game in an 8-6 loss to the Seattle Mariners on June
4.
Other players considered for the award included Seattle pitchers Kevin
Millwod, Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom
Wilhelmsen -- all of whom held the Los Angeles Dodgers hitless on June 8.
It was the 10th combined no-hitter in major league history, and the first
since the Astros accomplished the feat in 2003.
