AKRON -- Hot, dry weather doesn't just affect your lawn.

Our recent warm spell and little rain could be pushing wild animals closer to you, especially if you provide food and water for them.

One WKYC viewer sent in a video of a raccoon drinking from a container in her yard.

"A raccoon feeding from a water source, whether it be a kiddie pool, a bird bath, whatever the case may be, is not uncommon," says Jamey Graham, public information specialist with Ohio's Division of Wildlife.

But it could come with problems.

Raccoons and other critters can carry diseases, so you need to view the animals from a distance and try and keep pets away.

"Never approach a wild animal. It may feel threatened and attack" Graham said.

There are two sides of every coin, and some people may want to attract wildlife to their yards, while some may see them as unwelcome guests.
