Arlington, TX (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers recalled Martin Perez, their top pitching prospect, from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.

Perez, a 21-year-old lefty from Venezuela, will not start Tuesday's game against the Tigers but will be on an active big-league roster for the first time in his career.

Perez has had mixed results with the Rangers' top minor league affiliate this year, though he won his previous two starts, which included a complete-game gem against Iowa in his latest outing.

In 15 starts this year, Perez pitched to a 4.59 earned run average with a 1.38 walks/hits per inning pitched. He also had 49 strikeouts and 38 walks over 84 1/3 innings.

The Rangers have been dealing with injuries to pitchers Neftali Feliz, Derek Holland and Alexi Ogando.
