CLEVELAND -- This is no leisure cruise on the lake. Sailing is a highly competitive sport in Northeast Ohio.
This season, Mother Nature's been kind. Teams are competing in the 45th annual Princess Pat Race, out of the Forest City Yacht Club.
Aboard their 34-foot sailboat, Team It, is making waves. Far more, Laura Schaefer said, than even last summer.
"Last year, it was really light. We wanted to blow on the sails because we couldn't get very far," says Schaefer.
The Cleveland Sailing Association has had the wind at their backs seemingly all season. There's a competition nearly every weekend in July and August, drawing people from around the Great Lakes and beyond.
The drier and windier the weather, the more races are scheduled. Aboard First Tracks, Kellie Hawkins Schaffner's crew comes in from Erie County to race against the backdrop of downtown.
These competitors can't wait to see where the next breeze carries them.
